Bird Club Field Trips: (Susan Smith)
A lovely walk this morning, Wednesday May 25, along Detweiler Run
Natural Area was led by Greg and Deb Grove. A number of warblers
and other summer residents were heard singing. Although foliage
made it difficult to see many of the birds, group members saw
hooded, black throated blue and black and white warblers.
Announcements:
Centered Outdoors, run by Clearwater Conservancy, is looking for
individuals interested in co-leading bird walks at Bear Meadows
and Lederer Park during June and July. Contact
Doug
Wentzel if interested.
Notable Bird Sightings:
(April 27- May 25, 2022; Centre and its contiguous counties)
Greg was not available to give the update so participants listed
their interesting bird sightings in the chat box on Zoom. These
included white-eyed vireo, black-billed and yellow-billed cuckoo,
golden-winged, blue-winged, bay breasted and prothonotary
warblers.
Photo/Art Activity
Thanks to the organizing efforts of Roana Fuller and Jen Lee, the
May meeting provided an opportunity for several of our members to
share photos or other bird related art/science with the group.
Susan Smith read her poem “Bad Optics” and Julia Plummer played
songs of several species she had recorded using specialized
recording equipment. Five excellent photos from each of the
following photographers were also shared: Kazumi Ohira, Ron
Crandall, Debra Rittlemann, Lou Saporito, Robert Snyder, Nick
Bolgiano, Larry Ramsey and Alan MacEachren. Thank you to everyone
who was willing to share their talents with us.
