2012 Fall Calendar for meetings and field trips
Further details of all 2012 field trips will be posted to the State
College Bird Club listserv group.
Unless otherwise noted, all regular meetings will
be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room in the Community Building in
the Foxdale
Village Retirement Community.
Regular Meetings:
September 26, 2012 (Wednesday)

Program: Our guest speakers will be Nan Butkovich and Nancy Ellen
Kiernan and they will give a program entitled “Birding Glacier National
Park and Northwest Montana”
October 24, 2012 (Wednesday)

Program: Our guest speaker will be Mary Poss who will give a program entitled “The Amazing Bird Diversity in South America”
November 14, 2012 (Wednesday)

Program: Our guest speaker will be Dan Brauning who will give a program
entitled “Twenty-year review of the nesting birds of Pennsylvania -
where to find them and what's coming and going!

Program: Our guest speaker will be Kelli Hoover who will give a program
on her research on Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.

September 1, 2012 (Saturday)
Joe
Verica will lead a trip to Scotia Barrens to look for fall warblers and
other migrants. Meet at the north side (by retention pools) of the
Lowes Parking Lot (intersection of Atherton and Valley Vista) at 6:45
am.
September 22, 2012 (Saturday)
Deb Grim will be leading a trip to the Jacks Mt Hawk Watch. Meet at 10
am at the gravel parking area at the intersection of Rt. 26 and Charter
Oak Road (on the other side of Tussey from Pine Grove Mills where you
would turn if you were heading to Shaver's Creek). Return around 2 or 3
pm.
October 6, 2012 (Saturday)
Alex Lamoreaux will lead a hawkwatching trip to Jo Hays Vista to look
for Peregrine Falcons and other migrating raptors. More details will be
posted.
Local Hawk Watches:
The Fall Hawk migration is in full swing from September thru
December. Visit the State College Bird Club website to find a
listing of the local hawk watches. Weather conditions for
potential good hawk flights will be listed on the
State
College Bird Club listserv group.
Other Birding Events
September, every Wednesday
Migration Morning Bird Walks at Shaver's Creek
September 7 - October 12, every Friday for 6 weeks
State College Bird Club member Margaret Bittingham and/orNancy Ellen
Kiernan will be leading Fall bird walks in the Arboretum at Penn State
on six Fridays starting Friday September 7. Walks will start at
8:00 AM and end at 9:30 AM. Meet at the Arboretum Pavilion
parking area (off Park Avenue across from Law School). All levels
of experience are welcome.
